The Opal is the embodiment and combination of all the other gem powers. As opals were made of oceanic silica, this is the power of water. This is the ability to control water, breathe underwater and to create storms. The Opal Ranger has many of the same traits as the Garnet Ranger, acting as his second in command.
When the first six powers were created by Zordon, there was so much power coursing through them that they were too dangerous to use for extend times, such as long battles. Therefore the Rangers created another Ranger, channeling their Power into an Opal. Chosen as a combination of all the jewels, the Opal Powers are in many ways a combination of all the powers. The one chosen as the Opal Ranger was quickly appointed second in command, winning the trust of the other rangers, along with the love of the original Garnet.
Created by Xett, Zedd's father, were the Onyx Powers, given to the Rangers' enemy Magette. He captured and enspelled a young man, who became the first evil ranger and a powerful opponent against the Gem Rangers. The Onyx Ranger managed to fatally wound the original Opal Ranger in battle, when she took a blow to protect the downed Amethyst Ranger. After she died the gem was taken, out of respect, to the Queen ruler of Kessaire, Opal's home planet, as her coin chosen replacement was Kessairian as well. The Queen was charged with the task of finding the new Opal Ranger, and she took the jewel, saying that a new Ranger would be sent to Zordon and his team when needed. Nonetheless, a new Opal ranger never appeared,and the Opal Powers disappeared from sight.
The Opal Ranger's Powers change depending on the suit she wears. Like the former rangers were able to call upon their metallic armor during battle, her armor changes upon her vocal or mental call. The different armors are reflections of the fact that the Opal Power is created of all the powers. All the armors are pale, as they are not nearly as strong as the originals, with a metallic shimmer denoting the shimmering color changes of the opal. The Opal ranger's main power color is a pale blue, which reflects the wisdom of the Sapphire ranger. This is the strongest as the original ranger's bond with the other Rangers was strongest with Sapphire, her older brother. In the blue mode the Opal Ranger has Power over and control of water and the sea.
Green, another color of the ocean, is the Opal Power's secondary color, allowing the ability to manipulate living things as does the Jade Ranger. Pink is a combination of the Tourmaline and Garnet Ranger's powers, increasing the Opal Ranger's strength and allowing mental teleportation to occur. Yellow, the color of the Amber Ranger, was the color of increased speed and safety against evil. Finally, during her battle with the Onyx Ranger, the Opal Ranger was able to absorb some power from the Onyx Ranger to teleport away, and survive the teleport back to the Command Center. This new power is the shadow power, the ability to blend into the shadows and escape from sight--invisibility.
